The School Games

The School Games is a national programme which aims to increase participation in physical activity and sport, while giving children positive experiences of competition.

The programme is delivered locally by School Games Organisers, who work with schools to provide a wide range of sporting opportunities and events.

Key Features of the School Games

• Physical activity – encouraging all children to be active and enjoy sport.
• Competition – providing opportunities for pupils to take part in individual, team and inter-school competitions.
• Local opportunities – working with other schools and local organisations to provide a broad range of sporting experiences.
• School Games Values – promoting positive attitudes and behaviours through sport.
• School Games Mark – recognising schools for their commitment to physical activity and competitive sport.
• Targeted participation – creating opportunities for children who may not normally take part in competitive sport.

The School Games at Kings Heath Primary

Kings Heath Primary has a long history of taking part in the School Games and has achieved a number of School Games Mark awards in recognition of our sporting provision.

As part of our ongoing commitment to sport and physical activity, we run regular house competitions linked to our PE curriculum. These give children the opportunity to represent their house, develop teamwork and experience friendly competition.

We also have a School Games Organising Committee, made up of pupils who help to promote sport across the school, gather pupil views and support the organisation of competitions and events.

Our competitions are linked to the School Games Values, and children are recognised for demonstrating these values through their participation, attitude and behaviour.
